I don't diagree with your article, but honestly pundits have been crying Peak Oil since the 1970's. I'd wager we're still a long way from it as technology improves our mining abilities. Or we just carve up places like Alberta. :)
We also need to figure in the usage of other elements. There is research into replacing copper with more plentiful elements and even - shock - light, as well as silicon used in solar panels. Much in the way sulphur is about to make Lithium batteries obsolete.
Also, while mining resources from the moon and asteroids is science-fiction right now, so was most of our technology until it became science-fact.
I do agree we should stop consuming and wasting energy like there's no tomorrow. (Irony?)
