I CAN SEE THE MATRIX FOR THE UGLY THING IT IS

When Neo chose the reality pill, he woke up from the Matrix. He saw the world for what it really was. A scorched earth of rubble and perpetual overcast skies, destroyed by an epic battle between machines and humans. Those that survived huddled underground, fighting daily for their lives. A miserable existence. Hand-me-down clothes. Tasteless food. No luxuries. A constant threat from all around.

But Neo was free! Supposedly.

If we weren’t all aware of the strong likelihood of a dismal future ahead, the Wachowskis would be heralded as prophets. Our world today is akin to the Matrix. We blissfully go about our daily lives, spending the majority of our days working like a cog in a machine. But that’s ok, we are constantly distracted by TV, social media, video games and sports. Meanwhile, infinite ads ply shiny new products we have to own, and rebuy year after year. We eat and we drink no matter what it does to our bodies.

But we are free! Supposedly.

In the movie Matrix, humans were farmed for their bio-energy to keep the machines going. In our world we are farmed for our money, bled dry, taken into growing debt, while all the cash keeps the billionaires going.
