I have a good friend who used to work with Joseph Polchinski (sp) who undertook fascinating work on D-brane and string theory. He and other folks such as Witten tied QE very nicely to superstring theory. Tons of very nice (if brain-rattling) physics and math there. No evidence for a simulation, no so-called proof.
