I think you'e thinking too short term. What if we'd abandoned light bulbs because wiring every house in the 1800s was too complicated? What if we'd considered valve computers too power hungry or large and gave up on the computer?

Everything is a work in progress. We start now, in an inefficient manner, so as to perfect it later. We build EVs now to perfect the tech, epecially better batteries, because one day we will have 100% renewables. Yes, nuclear fission is dirty, but it paves the way for fusion which is totally clean and in fact burns fission waste!
