It’s free and easy to alter your genes and those of your children. Today. There’s an app for that. Genetic engineering has been available for over a decade and most people haven’t thought about it.

In fact, there is a plethora of such apps, usually found under the heading of social media.

OK, so you can’t make yourself run faster, see in the dark, hear better, cure disease, change your eye or hair color, or become more beautiful.

What you can engineer is destroyed focus, disastrous memory loss, lowered cognitive ability, addiction, increased judgement of others, a spiraling demand for attention and adoration, narcissism, discontent, and a propensity toward suicide.

Neural Impact of Social Media

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reshape neural pathways according to life experiences, training and thoughts. This reprogramming capability shapes habits, whether voluntary or otherwise, good or harmful.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, and one hormone involved in neuroplasticity. Too much or too little dopamine can cause serious effects in the brain, affecting learning, cognitive ability, kidney function, heart function, sleep, mood, and a host of other physiological problems.
